Private Well Guide is reader-supported. Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
Which programs we participate in
We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program that lets sites earn fees by linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Links to Amazon on this site are affiliate links.
Applications are pending with Tap Score (SimpleLab), SpringWell Water and US Water Systems. We are not in any other affiliate program (including WaterTestingKits.com, Aquasana, iSpring, APEC Water, Express Water and The Home Depot). Until a program approves us, links to that company are plain links and we earn nothing from them. We will update this page as programs approve us.
We have no affiliate relationship with state-certified laboratories, health departments, government agencies or university extension services. Links to them are plain links, and we recommend them because they are the right first step for health decisions, not because of any payment. Links to brands not named above (for example Safe Home) are also plain links, and we earn nothing from them.
How it affects what we write
- Commissions do not decide recommendations. For health decisions we point you to a state-certified lab and your health department first, whether or not anyone pays us. Treatment advice follows from your test results and independent certifications (such as NSF/ANSI), not from commission rates, which differ between companies.
- No paid reviews. Companies can’t pay to change a recommendation. If we ever publish sponsored content or receive a product for free, we’ll say so clearly at the top of that page.
- You pay the same price. Using our links doesn’t change your price. Any discount codes we share are ones we’re allowed to share.
How to spot affiliate links
Affiliate links usually run through a /go/ address on our site or carry tracking parameters. Pages with affiliate links show a short notice near the top, before the first link.
Why we use affiliate links
Researching official guidance and keeping it current takes time and money. Affiliate commissions let us keep the site free and free of pop-up ad clutter.
